nntp//rss is a Java-based bridge between RSS feeds and NNTP clients, enabling you to read your favorite RSS syndicated content within your existing NNTP-based newsreader. This second release considerably enhances NNTP compatibility, introduces support for additional RSS attributes, manages resources more efficiently, enables the configuration of output for HTML and text-based news readers, and provides a securable admin interface. nntp//rss supports RSS versions 0.91 through to 2.0, and has been tested with popular GUI and text based NNTP newsreaders. nntp//rss is a Java application that can either be run locally on an end-user's machine, or on a group server. Administration is through an easy-to-use web-based interface, facilitating group/channel management, status monitoring, and channel configuration import/export. nntp//rss is *feed friendly* - utilizing the Last-Modified and ETag features of the HTTP protocol ensures that the bandwidth of content providers’ web servers isn't inconsiderately used during polling. nntp//rss also extends RSS news reading capability to the non-GUI world, with a Lynx accessible admin interface, and an NNTP server accessible from popular text-based news readers.
